Srinagar, Feb 18 (KNO): One famed Tsoonti Koul in Srinagar City, is rapidly turning into the garbage dumping site as the heaps of garbage could be seen piled up in the water body, causing concern among the local residents.
In Karfali Mohalla area of Habba Kadal Srinagar, the locals alleged the increasing garbage has been affecting their health badly.
The residents told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the steady rise in pollution levels in Tsoonti Koul is unbearable and all the silt and plastics have gathered in the stream.
“I have lived here for years, and I have never seen such a waste in the water body. The water in Tsoonti Koul is contaminated. We can no longer use it for daily chores,” said Umar, a resident of Karfali Mohalla.
Another local, Sahil, expressed frustration over the lack of action. “We have repeatedly raised the issue, but no steps have been taken to address it. We want the authorities to take responsibility and clean up this water body,” he said.
Additionally, Danish, another resident, said pollution is not just limited to the water but extends to the air as well. “The increasing waste and lack of proper disposal methods are causing not only water pollution but air pollution too. The whole area stinks,” he said—(KNO)
